Success Mindset

A Nugget of Wisdom From Napoleon Hill’s Book, Think and Grow Rich

Friday, September 3rd, 2010

One of my all time favorite books is Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich. It is an amazing book and if you have not read it I suggest you get down to your local bookstore  or get on Amazon.com and order. Read it and then read it again. It is an amazing reference book if you are seeking personal success in your life. I find for myself the more I reference it the more success I achieve in all areas of my life.

The verse I want to share with you is in chapter 2 on Faith in a discussion on autosuggestion. Rather than trying to explain it I will just write it out in full and then let you pull from it what you will. (To get the full effect pull out you own copy of Think and Grow Rich, dust it off and take a look at it!) And ladies it is an old book just replace man with woman where appropriate:-)

If you think you are beaten, you are,
If you think you dare not, you don’t.
If you like to win, but think you can’t,
It is almost certain you won’t.

If you think you’ll lose, you’re lost,
For out of the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow’s will~
It’s all in the state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are,
You’ve got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.

“Life’s battles don’t always go
To the stronger or faster man,
But soon or late the man who wins
Is the man WHO THINKS HE CAN!”

These are truly words to live by and to teach our children. These concepts can make the difference in our own lives but our children need to learn them for success as well. Recently I was able to use this while teaching my 4 year old daughter a very valuable life lesson.

About a month ago I took the training wheels off my daughter Ella’s bike. She learned very quickly to ride as long as someone helped her get started.

The next day Ella and her older sister Donna were out very early practicing Ella’s new found skill. Ella was convinced she needed Donna’s help to get started pedaling. I recognized that if Donna continued to help her she would never learn how to get started on her own. I explained this to Donna and Ella and told Donna she could not help Ella start pedaling anymore.

Ella became very upset and started to say things like, “I can’t” and “I will never be able to do it.” I was unable to get her calmed down and I could see that what she thought was diminishing any of her ability to even ride with help getting started. So I put the bike away and told her when she could say, “I can” she could have it back.

This was a very difficult task for a 4 year old child. But she really wanted to practice so she reluctantly calmed herself down. I then coached her to say out loud, “I can do it.”

Now Ella rides like a pro!

It took a few times for her to say “I can do it” before she actually believed what she was saying but when she did the results were amazing. Within five minutes she had conquered starting herself pedaling on her bike. When I could see that she was struggling some I could see her saying to herself, “I can do it” over and over. It was amazing to see what Napoleon Hill described in auto-suggestion in action in a four year-old.

These concepts are just as important to teach our children as they are for us to practice in our own lives. As most of us parents know that our children learn best by example. If they see us practice this they will pick it up in their life as well.

So if you are looking for a positive change in your life, start by thinking you can do it and then watch as the amazing story of your life unfolds! For more wisdom to live by study the book “Think and Grow Rich” as it is full of valuable nuggets to apply in your life to help you achieve the success you desire.

3 Tips to Overcome Challenges In Your Home Based Business

Thursday, August 26th, 2010

Do not get stuck in a hole!

My journey in free enterprise has not been without it’s ups and downs. The ups are amazing experiences and I often get that “Someone please pinch me” feeling because it can feel completely surreal. On the opposite side, the “downs” have felt like being in a dark hole with no way out.

The bad news is that the majority of people do not hang on long enough to find the way out of the hole. They may take a swing at something that could potentially change their lives and quit after the first or second miss. The failure rate in home business is so high because of this simple fact. People give up to easily. They quit the instant it gets hard. You can take a look at college graduation statistics and see the trend continue. When the going gets tough the absolute easiest thing to do is just quit and go back to the “comfort zone” of their life. The funny thing is for most people their “comfort zone” is completely uncomfortable!

The good news is there always is a way out of a low. The other good news is that there are steps you can take on your road to make the down times feel less down. It is not a matter of if you will fall, it is more accurately, when you will fall. Accept that challenges are part of life and become determined to overcome them.

Here are 3 easy ways you can use to keep your head up or have it be the hand up for you when you fall.

1. Visualize positive things ALL the time.

You can turn a perfectly awful day into a fabulous day by focusing on the good things rather than the bad ones. This practice will help you in all areas of your life.

2. Surround yourself with positive people who have already achieved what you want to.

They will be your biggest asset to overcoming challenges in your life. If you do not know anyone successful in your life pick up a book or two. Books like Think and Grow Rich, The Magic of Thinking Big, How to Win Friends and Influence People, What to say When You Talk to Yourself, The Slight Edge, are all great examples of books that will help you excel in your business and your life. Borrow these authors as your positive influence and watch how you start to grow personally and in your business!

3. Live for today in the now. Do not live in the rear view mirror!

Do not dwell on your past mistakes or failures but rather look to the solutions that will mold your future.

Remember if success was easy everyone would be successful. Embrace challenges as learning experiences and move on!

My “Why”

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

It is so important to know your “why”. If your why is not big enough you will have a hard time staying the course. Define your why and get in down on paper or you can get it on video like I did…..

Your “why” can be anything but it has to involve more than just making money. It must reach deep in your heart and pull your little heart strings. Only then will you overcome each obstacle on your path to success!

I Made A Choice…….And My Life Changed Almost In An Instant

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

My Mentor (top female producer) and me in Houston.

Today I had the privilege of attending the daily “Wake Up Call”. This is a call that I make every effort to attend. It makes the difference between a good day and a fantastic productive day. Each time I attend that call I am amazed at how I am challenged to grow.

So what is this choice I am talking about? At the end of last year I decided I had it. Inside I had dreams that I was starting to give up on and tell myself to get real. I was starting to waver to settle for the pastures. After all that was what everyone else did right?

You know the routine, go to work after dropping your kids off somewhere, work all day doing stuff that you have gotten bored with or maybe even started to hate, then after work, pick up the kids, race around a bit to get ready for the next day, watch some TV, go to bed, and then rinse and repeat.

I am somewhat ashamed to admit I even wavered on my hopes and dreams. But hey as humans we have our ups and downs. That’s when I made up my mind.

I decided that I was happy not doing what everyone else was doing. I decided my dreams would only come true if I pursued them with every piece of my being. I decided that I would change!

Now on this mornings wake up call change was the hot topic. Change will only take place if you do these three things:

1) Decide to change – Change always begins with a decision.

2) Change the way you think – Program your mind with what is right and good.

3) Make small steps toward change each day.

We all want change to happen instantly. When we start a business we all want sales to be flooding in the day after we start. That is not the reality of life. Accept your growth and success as a process. A process that must grow day by day. Celebrate each success you have toward meeting your goals. Make sure you are taking a step each and every day!

Challenge yourself! Choose to begin. It is only with beginning that you will get on the path. Once you are on the path you must keep moving to get anywhere!

Above I included a picture of myself with my mentor. We were in Houston together for an event. It was the second time we met in two months. On Saturday I will meet up with her again in Florida for another marketing event. If you were to tell me one year ago or even six months ago that I would be taking my third trip to hang out with empowered people who are making their business happen I would not have believed you.

The baby steps of change have started to reap results in my life that I only dreamed about before. I have a clear purpose to pursue each day. I have a business that is growing day by day. I am meeting and developing relationships with people all over the globe. I am masterminding with millionaires. It all started with a choice.

If you are holding back make sure you put all the blame on yourself. Only you can make the choice and when you do prepare yourself for amazing things!

Do you want to change to? Do you want to feel alive even if it means you must face your fears head on?

You can get started today as well, it all begins with a choice!

The Grass is Greener on the Other Side of the Fence……

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

How many times have you heard this one? How many times have you used this statement?

Growing up on a farm I got to see this in action. Often times you would see a big cow in a pasture full of grass poking her head out of the fence to get to the grass on the other side. Then there were the cows that really took this to a new level that would break through the fence to get to the greener grass.

On Twitter the other day I was messaging with a new follower. I always ask:

How’s life treating you?

It’s such a simple question but I find that the most positive people answer it. I find the responses mostly positive and inspirational. I had a particular follower respond that, life was good but you know the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.

For some reason at the moment I read that a new thought occurred to me.

Why do we humans compare ourselves to a big dumb cow? (I know that from personal experience as well:-) We are not big, dumb cows. We get to make hundreds of choices everyday. These choices determine what our pasture looks like or if we are confined to a pasture at all!

This thought also made me think of Jerry Clark’s CD Murphy’s Committee. If you have listened to it you know that he talks about cows and rhino’s. He talks about settling in the pasture with the other cows or entering into the jungle with your inner rhino and making it to the other side.

Combining these two thoughts in my head brought about this response from me to my new follower:

“If the grass is greener on the other side put your head down like a rhino and blow through the fence.”

Thankfully the reader appreciated it and let me know it by replying, “Good one, I appreciate that insight”.

My thought to you is if you feel like you are stuck in a “pasture” evaluate what kind of choices you are making on a daily basis.

How many hours are you wasting in front of a TV?

How many inspiring books have you read this month, this year, or this lifetime?

What challenges are you taking on that will make you grow as a person?

Are  you giving up when the going gets tough?

You see we are not even close to being cows.  If the grass appears greener on the other side of the fence we can use this amazing thing behind our eyeballs called a brain. (Cows have a brain but it is very small compared to ours:-) We can choose to use it to keep us where we are at, or, to propel us closer to our goals and dreams.

To be completely honest with you, it can be a jungle out there. You will come about challenges outside of the pasture. These challenges will test you to the limit. But, if you take each one and be grateful for the learning experience it provides soon you will develop thicker skin. With thicker skin you will weather these challenges better and better each time! Before you know it you will have grown into the successful person you knew was hiding inside of you all along!

Get out of you comfort zone.

Make great things happen today!

Your Net Worth is determined by your Network……

Mike Dillard and me in Houston at a Birthday Bash.

Just this past week I had the opportunity to attend an event with the likes of Mike Dillard. It was an incredible event filled with exciting new announcements, products, and successful leaders.

Attending events is one of the best ways you can catapult your business forward. How? By masterminding with leaders you become more like them. When you become more like them you attract more people to you. It is an exciting cycle that you want to be a part of!

Maybe you have heard before that your income is the average of the people you hang around with. If your closest associations do not have the income you desire, attending events are a great way to form new associations!

These events infuse me with a new energy to come home with. They also seem to have a direct impact on my results as well.

Event = Revived energy= Greater Productivity= Business reaches a higher level!

My very favorite part of attending these events is meeting new people. People who are just like me. They are passionate about life, business, entrepreneurship, and setting and meeting goals.

So take a chance and get to the next event you can. You may thank yourself for years to come that you did!

To close I would like to leave you with a quote:

~ Teamwork is so important that it is virtually impossible for you to reach the heights of your capabilities or make the money that you want without becoming very good at it. ~ Brian Tracy

3 Tips to Become Magnetic in Your Home Based Business

Monday, January 18th, 2010

The idea to becoming magnetic is a little voodoo. Really, how can you attract people to you? Does it really work?

I am here to tell you that is absolutely does work and it has worked since the beginning of time. Have you ever been attracted to someone who is funny, smart, good-looking, successful, etc? You most likely answered yes to one of those questions.

So you do have a magnetic experience to relate to! But what made them magnetic in the first place?

Most of the time we are attracted to those that we see as better than us in some way shape or form. This attraction usually takes place because we can see ourselves improve from interaction with this person.

So what can you do to become more magnetic in your business?

1- Bring Extra Value to the Table.

What do I mean by bringing value to the table? Know more than your prospect or customer! Take the time to invest in yourself and your education. This will allow you to appear to be the expert and to really be the expert.

People are attracted to someone who seems to know more than them. If you can help your prospect solve one of their problems they automatically begin to like you. In the process they also start to feel like they know you and can trust you as well.

You can show you have more value before you even meet your prospect! Position yourself as an expert in articles, videos, emails and watch the attraction begin.

The key is: you need to possess the added value for others to see it, experience it, and then watch attraction process take off!

2- Work Daily on Your Leadership Skills

Do I really need to be a leader for people to be attracted to me?

Yes!

Learning leadership skills will increase your appeal to the crowds. They will naturally be attracted to you for your guidance and expertise. The masses are hungry for someone to show them the way to greater things especially success!

If you are working on your leadership skills each experience will make you more valuable to a wider crowd of people.

More value+ a leader = Greater magnetic forces

3- Be Aware of Your Appearance.

No, I do not mean you have to look like Barbie or Ken (Can you tell I have little girls:-). But, you do need to pay attention to how you look.

Why?

Appearances usually form our first impressions of someone. Dress for success and look the part. If you are going to post a picture of yourself make sure you take some time to make it “magnetic”.

Think of the last person you were attracted to. Make a mental note of what their appearance was and try to emulate it.

The truth is, the 3% that are actually successful in a home business have honed in on their magnetic skills. They have taken the extra time and effort to BECOME THE EXPERT, BE THE LEADER, and to LOOK THE PART!

Now it is time that you take action and get your magnetic self turned on!

Wake Up Call Wisdom

Wednesday, January 6th, 2010

Each morning the community of online entrepreneurs I work with starts the day off with a wake up call. Instead of a cup of coffee for energy I have a call of motivation each morning. The call is full of updates, recognition, personal development, and wisdom. It is 15 minutes to get connected with other successful people carving their way in the online world.

This morning the wisdom passed on was:

Money is money.

Time is time.

When is comes down to it people dream about money because with money they will gain time. Time to spend on the things they want to spend it on. Time is the objective that most people really hunger for.

The secret to having more time is to focus on the worthy. Focus on the actions that will bring the most results each day. Have the courage to neglect those tasks that are unnecessary. The person who tries to do everything gets nothing done.

So today challenge yourself to plug into the things that will bring you results!

Welcome 2010

Friday, January 1st, 2010

The New Year is here! Happy New Year to you and yours! I have to admit I love the new year. It is the perfect time to reflect on the past year while setting new goals for the year to come.

This year I decided to start the New Year differently. Instead of waiting until now to make my New Year resolutions I started back in November. I decided I wanted to start the New Year running.

The New Year officially began today and I can honestly say my plan worked. The past two months have been full of training and action. I am happy to have all that under my belt so that I can fly with the momentum I have created. The point I am trying to make is that action will create momentum. If you are seeking momentum in any area of your life take action now. Not tomorrow, Not Monday, Not in an hour, Start RIGHT NOW! The momentum will follow naturally!

The New Year provides an excellent opportunity to make the changes. When you are setting your goals make sure you set short term goals and long term goals. Decide what your life will look like at the end of the year, the next five years and this new decade. It can be as amazing as you make it!

I look forward to getting to know you better this year and helping you achieve your dreams!
