The New Economy’s Simple Formula For Financial Success

May 24th, 2010 by Mary Thayer

It was not long ago that the formula for success was go to school and get a good job with great benefits. Once you completed those steps you could basically put your life on auto-pilot and be set.

Today those rules no longer apply. Having a good job is about as secure as having a good used car. It might be reliable for the first couple of years but then things start to break down. Like the job market is breaking down with downsizing, layoffs, and many company’s closing their doors completely or picking up shop to go to another country.

This seems like bad news but it is better defined as new rules. The new rules include an entirely different formula than the go to school and get a good job formula.

So what is the Formula for success in today’s economy?

It is a very simple formula but I will warn you that it does not involve putting your life on auto-pilot…………

The New Economy’s Formula is:

New Skills= More Value= Increased Income Potential

In today’s “new economy” as more and more people are finding themselves without a job, more are looking to start a business. Other people looking are just tired of not having any control of their lives in an uncertain job market. Most that are looking want to start a business they can run from the comfort of their own home utilizing the internet.

To start any new business it is critical to learn new skills. Simply committing to this will invariably increase your value to the marketplace. As you increase your value and provide it to the marketplace your increased income potential grows.

But let’s be real here, the thought of learning new skills can be daunting. It can be downright scary for people who have not been actively learning for years or in some cases decades. The process of gaining new skills is full of ups and downs as well. It is critical to celebrate every small victory as you learn and apply! This will provide you with the staying power to keep you excited and motivated to keep plowing ahead.

Another little secret about gaining new skills is that they never produce results as fast as  you think they should. When you apply each new technique it always takes longer to work than you think it should. Accept that fact and run with it! Persistence and tweaking are key. Hold on to these two skills and you will achieve great things!

As you are on your journey of gaining new skills do not forget the more value part of the  equation. Pass this value into the world and you will attract the people you desire to you and your business. Leverage your new value and position yourself as a leader. Most people are looking for a leader to help them on their way. Be that person and you will experience great success in the new economy!

Last note for you to remember in this equation is that everyone has their own time-line. Do not compare yourself to anyone. If you must compare yourself to something compare your progress and growth from one week to another. If you embrace this new economy formula you will be shocked at how many doors will open for you!

To your continued success!

Great points Mary! It is daunting to start off in a new direction, especially after establishing yourself in a traditional j-o-b but certainly has its potential to be most rewarding.

As Jim Rohn would ask, would you rather work full time making a living or part time making a fortune? In an industry such as network marketing someone CAN start out part time and build a business which will take care of them the rest of their lives. They just have to be willing to invest that extra time to do it, but at least it is on their own terms!

Thanks for the great content, have an awesome day!

    Hi Mary!

Thanks for sharing your article with me today…I really appreciate it.

Yep, long gone are the days of working for a company ‘forever’, a gold watch, a pension & retirement.

TGFTI…Thank God For The Internet, when one uses it productively with good intent.

Have a pleasant day…your tribal friend Steven Suchar :)

Mary, great article. This morning on NPR’s Mid-Morning there was a great discussion relating to the new rules, as you say, for this economy. The focus was on high school graduates and the pressure to attend college. It was very interesting to hear what the general public had to say with their own experiences.

    Steven,
I love that you mention the gold watch. It was good times for many who received their gold watches but those times have passed us by! I agree on TGFTI it has brought many great things to our everyday lives but has especially helped the entrepreneur!

    Hi Mary,
    Great post!
It is interesting how many people I have met recently who are not involved at all with Internet business who have also realized how huge the global shift taking place right now is.

Mary, yes we do live in very different times. Developing new skill sets is something we all need to do. What better way to apply this than in our own MLM businesses. As RN’s you and I know the value of an education, but it doesn’t always have to take place in a university. Compare the cost of a bachelor’s education to a $197 marketing product that potentially could take your business to the next level. Once you leave your employee-mentality and take on an entrepreneur mindset, the world literally open up to you.
    Thanks Mary!

    Hi Mary,

I really enjoyed your post. You make several great
points and I have to agree with you as a fellow online
entrepreneur. As home business owners we are unique.
How many people have you talked to you and said “NO”, they
    are happy with their job.

There are many people like that, so we take the time out of our lives to make a better living for ourselves. We don’t know what tomorrow will be like, though we are always striving for the best.

    Thanks for the continued value!

    Have a great weekend!

    Hi Mary!!

This is a great post. I totally agree that our world has totally changed. It’s a shame that the average person doesn’t understand the need to diversify their skill set. A skill set that allows you to take on more opportunities makes a difference in how you design your future.

Thanks for connecting! I’m looking forward to seeing more of you.

of course, I commented on this great content back in BN… THEN clicked on your blog to find it here.

One thing I could say here, too – I believe one of the things we can educate people with is what it takes to pioneer this new economy.

Coincide with what this industry has been saying for years – associate with people’s dreams and goals … this is how we enhance their lives and fuel the fire of desire.
